The best conversion starts with understanding what the source contains and what the destination can preserve.
Choose a destination for the real job
A format is not simply a suffix at the end of a filename. It is a set of rules about how pixels, pages, rows, paragraphs, metadata, and other structure are stored. Start with the application, person, or system that needs the result. A website may reward a compact WebP image, a print workflow may prefer TIFF, a universal handoff may call for PDF, and a data import may demand CSV. Choosing from the destination backward reduces needless conversions and makes compatibility easier to test.
Keep the original file. Every conversion involves a tradeoff, even when the destination is lossless. A simpler format may omit features; a modern format may not open in older software; a page render may preserve appearance while losing editable structure. Chanjify always creates a new download so the source remains available. Use a descriptive filename, add a version or date when several revisions will circulate, and open the final result in the application used by its recipient.
Image formats: pixels, transparency, and size
JPG remains practical for photographs because its lossy compression reduces file size efficiently. Repeated JPG encoding can soften detail and introduce blocks around high-contrast edges. JPG also has no transparent pixels, so Chanjify uses a white background when a transparent source is converted to JPEG. PNG is a stronger fit for screenshots, diagrams, interface captures, and logos with transparency. Its lossless compression preserves sharp edges, but photographic PNG files can be much larger than equivalent JPG or WebP images.
WebP and AVIF are modern web formats. Both can deliver strong visual quality at smaller sizes, and both support transparency, but compatibility should be checked when assets must open in older desktop applications. AVIF encoding can take longer because its compression is computationally demanding. TIFF serves a different audience: scanning, print, publishing, and archival software frequently uses it, while ordinary browsers and social platforms may not. SVG begins as vector instructions. Exporting SVG to PNG, JPG, or WebP rasterizes those instructions into a fixed pixel grid, so the chosen source dimensions affect future enlargement.
PDF is a page, not an editable source document
PDF describes finished pages and is designed to keep their appearance stable. That makes it excellent for sharing, printing, signing, and archiving, but it also means that PDF editing differs from word processing. Merging copies pages into a new document. Splitting, extracting, and removing choose which pages survive. Organizing changes page order. Rotation changes orientation metadata. Cropping changes the visible page box and may leave hidden content in the underlying file. These distinctions matter when confidential information is involved; cropping is not the same as secure redaction.
Image-to-PDF tools place each image on a page without stretching its proportions. PDF-to-image tools do the opposite by rendering page appearance onto pixels. A rendered image looks like the page but does not retain searchable text, form controls, links, or vector editability. Multiple rendered pages are bundled as ZIP so every page is delivered predictably. Password-protected and corrupt documents are reported as errors rather than being presented as successful downloads.
Page organization deserves a verification pass
Order is part of the document. Before merging several PDFs, review the visible file list. When splitting or extracting, verify page numbers against the source rather than a printout with different numbering. Chanjify accepts explicit ranges such as 1-3,5 and checks them against the actual page count. Removing every page is blocked. Organize PDF can repeat a page intentionally, which is useful for templates but worth noticing before distribution.
Scanning to PDF here means arranging photos or camera captures as pages. It does not perform optical character recognition, so the text in a scanned page remains pixels. Use even lighting, keep the camera parallel to the paper, fill the frame without clipping edges, and inspect the smallest type before deleting the photographs. If searchable text is required, use an approved OCR workflow after creating the scan; Chanjify does not label a non-OCR tool as OCR.
PDF edits, forms, signatures, and comparison
Page numbers and watermarks are embedded into a new PDF. Position, starting number, opacity, scale, and rotation affect readability, so examine pages with unusually small margins or dark artwork. A watermark can discourage casual reuse but is not access control. Standard AcroForm fields can be filled, while XFA-only forms use a different technology and are reported honestly as unsupported. Always check the field values after downloading because a PDF viewer can display form appearances differently.
The signature tool creates an electronic signature appearance. A typed name is embedded visibly on the page, but this is not certificate-based cryptographic signing and should not be described as one. Visual comparison renders pages and measures pixel differences. It can identify layout, wording, image, and rendering changes that affect pixels, but it does not understand legal meaning or semantic equivalence. Review the included difference images and use qualified review processes for contracts or regulated decisions.
Spreadsheet conversion is about data shape
Workbook formats such as XLSX, XLS, and ODS can contain multiple sheets, formulas, styles, merged cells, charts, macros, and typed values. CSV and TXT are deliberately simpler. They represent one sheet as text and cannot preserve most workbook features. That is why Chanjify exposes a sheet number instead of silently guessing when a workbook contains several sheets. Choose the intended sheet, then verify representative headings, Unicode characters, dates, decimal separators, commas, and quoted values in the output.
CSV is portable, but applications can disagree about delimiters, encodings, and date interpretation. A value that looks like a date or long account number may be reformatted when opened in spreadsheet software even though the CSV text is correct. HTML export creates a table useful for viewing or further web work; it does not recreate a full spreadsheet application. Legacy XLS may be necessary for old systems, while XLSX is normally the better workbook destination for current software. ODS is a sensible open-document choice for compatible office suites.
Document and text formats preserve different kinds of meaning
DOCX to HTML focuses on semantic content: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, emphasis, and links where Mammoth can identify them. It does not promise pixel-perfect Word rendering because page layout concepts do not map directly onto responsive HTML. DOCX to TXT extracts readable text and meaningful breaks but naturally omits fonts, colors, images, and page geometry. Use the HTML result when structure matters and plain text when portability, indexing, or a clean textual draft matters more.
Markdown is intentionally readable source text. Converting it to HTML creates structured web markup, while converting it to TXT removes markup and keeps visible words. HTML to Markdown works best on semantic HTML and may simplify highly styled page builders. HTML to TXT ignores scripts and styles and extracts visible text. TXT to HTML escapes reserved characters before building paragraphs and line breaks, so supplied text is never treated as trusted markup. Sanitization is part of the conversion design, not an optional preview step.
Privacy claims should match the engine
Most Chanjify engines run inside the browser. PDF-lib changes PDF structures in memory, PDF.js renders pages, SheetJS parses workbooks, Mammoth reads DOCX packages, and focused text libraries transform HTML or Markdown. Those workflows do not need a third-party conversion service. Refreshing or closing the tab clears the working interface, and object URLs are released after downloads. Browser-local processing still uses your device memory, so very large tasks may be more reliable on a desktop.
Image format conversion is different. Chanjify sends the selected image to its own Next.js route where Sharp validates and re-encodes it in memory. The request is not forwarded to an external conversion API and the implementation does not intentionally save the file permanently. This is more accurate than claiming every file always stays on the device. Regardless of engine, only process files you are authorized to use and follow organization policy for regulated, secret, or unusually sensitive material.
Errors are part of a trustworthy tool
An empty file, incorrect magic signature, corrupt container, unsupported form, invalid page range, excessive size, or browser memory limit should produce an understandable error. It should not create random bytes or a file with a convincing extension. Chanjify validates early where possible and catches conversion failures so the interface never leaves an endless spinner. If a file fails, confirm it opens normally in its native application, download it again if the transfer may be incomplete, and check whether encryption or unusual features are involved.
For large batches, test one representative source before committing time to the rest. Compare a detailed image area, a page near the end of a PDF, a workbook row with commas and Unicode, or a document section with lists and links. This sample-based check is quick and catches the issues most likely to matter in the finished workflow. Good conversion is not just producing bytes; it is producing a result that remains useful at the destination.
Accessibility, performance, and a focused interface
The site is designed for keyboard navigation, visible focus, screen-reader-friendly status messages, and touch targets that remain usable on narrow screens. Desktop navigation expands into a grouped tool menu; mobile navigation becomes category accordions rather than squeezing a wide grid into the viewport. Motion respects reduced-motion preferences. Heavy conversion libraries load only when their engine is used. A homepage visitor does not need to download PDF rendering, workbook parsing, DOCX extraction, and visual comparison code all at once. Static routes provide indexable explanations and related links, while the interactive converter remains a focused client component. This separation improves initial performance and keeps the long-form guidance available without turning the entire page into browser-side JavaScript.

A dependable habit has four parts: preserve the source, name the destination clearly, check the setting that can change meaning, and open the result. For images that may be transparency or quality. For PDFs it is page order, range, crop, or placement. For spreadsheets it is sheet choice and representative values. For documents it is structure, links, and Unicode. Do my files stay on my device?
Most PDF, spreadsheet, document, and text tools process locally in your browser. Image conversion and compression, plus Office package compression, use Chanjify’s own validated in-memory server routes. SVG and PDF compression remain browser-local. No tool sends files to a third-party conversion API.
Does Chanjify rename extensions to look converted?
No. Each tool parses, renders, copies, compresses, or re-encodes content using an appropriate library. Outputs are actual files in the destination format, and automated tests inspect representative results.
Why can formatting change after conversion?
Formats support different capabilities. CSV cannot preserve workbook styling or multiple sheets, TXT has no rich formatting, JPG has no transparency, and DOCX-to-HTML targets semantic web content rather than pixel-perfect Word layout. Each tool page explains relevant tradeoffs.
Can I use Chanjify on a phone?
Yes. The interface adapts to screens down to 320 pixels and uses touch-sized controls. Large PDFs, workbooks, or high-resolution images may still work better on a desktop because mobile browsers have tighter memory limits.
